SOHO
GRAND HOTEL
310 WEST BROADWAY, NEW
YORK
New York City's SoHo
Grand Hotel is on the
lower east side of New
York, half an hour from
La Guardia Airport, and
35 minutes from JFK
Airport. SoHo's creative
roots first emerged in
the 1880s, when the
textile industry
established houses in
this industrial district,
and its destiny was
further woven when area
architects began using
cast iron as structural
and architectural
elements. This foray
helped create
eye-pleasing, large, airy
structures from dimly
gas-lit rooms
structurally supported
only by wood columns. In
the 1950s, a trend of
beauty drew artists
looking for a place to
call home.
With a nod to the
past, the SoHo Grand's
lobby features a
suspended cast iron
stairway to the 2nd
floor, where guests can
indulge in
people-watching or
intimate conversation.
Artistic eyes will
delight in the SoHo
Grand's lobby, which is
cutting edge chic with
sixteen foot windows
draped with muslin and
velvet, a mercury glass
ceiling unexpectedly
accented with chicken
wire, and upholstered
pieces in a mix of
textiles from 1800s
patterns to modern fabric
designs. Commissioned
works by SoHo artists are
displayed throughout the
hotel's public spaces and
guestrooms, and some are
available for purchase.
Guests can dine in the
opulent Grand Bar &
Lounge or in the
art-filled Gallery
restaurant.
This 17-story hotel
has 369 guestrooms
decorated in stark hues
of gray and coffee, and
the rooms feature decor
inspired by the Arts
& Crafts Movement.
Beds with
chocolate-colored leather
headboards are covered
with Italian Frette
linens and silk
bedspreads. Bathrooms
recall Old New York with
subway-style ceramic wall
tiles, grey and white
hexagonal floor tiles,
and pedestal sinks.
Toiletries are by
Blisslabs and Privé.
A celebrity haunt,
this hotel is also just
steps away from
galleries, shops, and
trendy eateries.
